LYRICS:

It’s been a hard time for Murph since Mandy left him

Sifting the dirt of all her messing around

On the other side of town

Whilst he’d been working away for that dream holiday

And a diamond ring to unite their fling

That only started weeks before

He was told by friends

You’re jumping in too soon

Go and check your head

She’ll take you for a fool

Cos they knew what she’d been up to

It’s been a hard time for Murph since Mandy left him

Sifting the hurt of all her messing around

On the other side of town

He’s been seen everyday for the last two weeks

In the lonely boy bar and concerns have grown

He’s drowning in his sorrow

He dismissed his friends

And he jumped in too soon

Now he drinks alone

Casting aspersions of a fool

Cos he knew what she’d been through

(Instrumental)

Murph you knew the truth

her divorce had not long gone through

She was straight with you

And you know she never meant to hurt you

But her ex says he still loves her too

they need this one last chance to work it through

Cos their kids are still at school

It’s gonna take time

But Murph you’ll be alright

Put faith in yourself

Get up And start again

It’s gonna take time

But Murph you’ll be alright

Put faith in yourself

Get up and start again

It’s gonna take time

But Murph you’ll be alright

Put faith in yourself

To Get up and start again

It’s gonna take time

But Murph you’ll be just fine

With help from your friends

You’ll Get up and start again

Character Profile:

Murphy is a man in his late 20’s and has ADHD. He works as a kitman for a professional football club whilst competing as an amateur boxer with the ambition to turn professional. Over the previous 2 months he has been involved in a romantic fling with Mandy, an older women 10 years his senior, and this has swayed his boxing focus.

Mandy has recently been involved in a turbulent divorce which was finalised 6 months prior to the night she first met Murphy on a drunken girls night out in the lonely boy bar. Attracted to each other, the night led a one night stand and what was meant to be a casual fling with no strings attached.

Murphy however, fell for Mandy and convinced himself that it could be something more even though Mandy had never given him that impression. Murphy, lost in a lust for love and delusional desperation for companionship, decided he was going to propose to Mandy and took on extra work to pay for a dream holiday and a diamond engagement ring in order to so.

However, unbeknown to Murphy and whilst he was working out of town, Mandy had gone to visit her ex-husband who had had a change of heart since and asked to reconcile their relationship. He still has feelings for Mandy and the trauma of their seperation effected him and more importantly their 2 adolescent children who are still in school.

Murphy dismissed his friends, who were aware of the situation and warned him to cool his interest. Eventually, Mandy also confessed intimacy with Murphy had to end beacusenshe was going to give it another go with ex husband for the sake of her family and the fact that she still harbours feelings for him.

Emotionally broken, feeling foolish and embarrassed Murphy is left to rue his own behaviour and starts a two week drinking binge to drown his sorrow in the lonely boy bar with the holiday tickets and ring he’d already bought sat in front of him.

Murphy then refocuses and uses boxing and training to rebuild his confidence and restore his inner strength and self esteem to symbolise having faith himself to get up and start again.

Proposed video story arc

Scenes of Murphy sat in the bar with holiday tickets and ring retrospectively thinking about the recent past with Mandy interspersed with training shots of gym work, running and boxing.

As the song progresses, the intensity of the training increases to create a crescendo under the lyrics 'have faith in yourself to get up and start again'.

The training signifies Murphy overcoming his inner demons and emotional distress and culminates with him staring into the camera with a self assurance that’s he’s ok and ready to move on from his heartache. The video ends with him in the bar, picking up his training bag and walking away from the table he’s been sat at - taking the holiday tickets but leaving the ring behind.
